About the Class
This six-week class takes you from your very first lump of clay to finished, glazed pots. You'll learn to center, open, and pull up walls to throw cylinders and bowls, then move on to shaping, trimming, and adding handles and other attachments. Along the way you'll learn how clay changes as it dries, how firing and the cone system work, and how to glaze your finished pieces. We'll also try a decorative slip technique. By the end, you'll have a set of pots you made yourself and the skills and confidence to keep practicing on your own during Open Studio. No experience needed.
Class tuition includes:
Weekly class instruction
25 pounds of clay (firing & glaze included)
Access to open studio hours
About the teacher:
Evelyn Ward is a North Carolina studio potter who makes functional pots that are simple in form, with surfaces decorated using monoprinted slip transfers. She started out as a printmaker and graphic designer, and that printmaking sensibility shapes every piece. Her work is shown at the Hillsborough Gallery of Arts and Cedar Creek Gallery.
