Throughout the evening, attendees will explore three different approaches to bird photography.

Bird Portraits

Learn how Brett approaches controlled bird portraiture, from choosing angles and backgrounds to managing light, composition and subject behaviour.

You’ll see how small decisions around framing, head position, eye contact and light can completely change the final image.

Conservation Portraits

Bird photography can also tell a bigger story.

Working alongside animal keepers, Brett will demonstrate how to create environmental and conservation-focused portraits that combine the bird, the people who care for it and the wider story behind the image.

Birds in Flight

This is where timing, anticipation and camera performance really matter.

Brett will demonstrate how he approaches birds in flight, including autofocus setup, shutter speed, tracking, movement and predicting where the bird is going rather than simply reacting once it has moved.

Attendees will then have the opportunity to put those ideas into practice.

What You’ll Learn

How to photograph birds in controlled and moving situations
How to anticipate behaviour and improve timing
How to create stronger bird portraits through composition and light
How to approach birds in flight with more confidence
How autofocus, shutter speed and lens choice affect your results
How to work respectfully and ethically around birds
How conservation storytelling can add more meaning to wildlife imagery
How Brett uses Sony Alpha cameras and lenses in professional bird photography

Lighting & Equipment

This workshop will feature Nanlite lighting setups, showing how artificial light can be used creatively for bird and conservation portraiture.

You’ll also see Sony Alpha cameras and lenses in action, with Brett breaking down the autofocus, lens and camera settings he relies on when photographing both controlled portraits and moving subjects.

Who Is This For?

This workshop is ideal for:

Bird photographers wanting to improve their approach
Wildlife and nature photographers
Sony photographers wanting to understand professional autofocus workflows
Portrait photographers interested in animal and conservation imagery
Anyone wanting more experience photographing birds in a controlled environment
