10:15am – 11:15am - Straw Bale Vegie Gardening with Kylie Treble

No garden? No problem! Learn how to start a vegie patch in a straw bale!

Straw bale vegie gardens are perfect for people who:

  • live in a rental property,
  • don’t have the cash for raised garden beds or
  • want to get growing while you plan a more permanent setup.

Straw bale vegie gardening gives you:

  • the ability to place an instant garden wherever the sun shines
  • a way to avoid poorly draining, hard-to-work or diseased soil
  • a far less labour-intensive gardening experience, eliminating digging and weeding

Join us in this hands-on demonstration as Kylie shows us through the ins and outs of constructing and growing vegetables in straw bales.

11:20am – 12:30pm - Pollinator Friendly Gardens with Dr Anna Carrucan

Do you want your garden full of pollinators?

Do you want to enjoy some of these great benefits in your garden:

  • The sound of buzzing bees
  • Watching butterflies and dragonflies fly around
  • Pollination of your fruit and vegetables
  • Biodiversity
  • Ecosystem health
  • Biological control of “pest” insects

Thought about getting into honeybees but don’t have the money to invest in a beehive or the time to manage that hive.

Join us in this presentation as Anna discusses the basics of pollination along with sharing tips to get pollinators into your garden including native bees.
