Belonging Begins Within

A Somatic Workshop for Mental Health Awareness Month

Saturday 31 October | 9am - 1pm

Wanaka Community Hub Auditorium | Free

This Mental Health Awareness Month, the national theme is Belonging Matters: a chance to explore what it means to belong, to community, to each other and to ourselves. This workshop focuses on the internal aspects of belonging because belonging starts in the body.

The workshop will explore how stress and trauma are stored in the body and create adaptation patterns within the physical tissues which impact the way we experience the world. There is an intelligence in our body that protects us from any perceived harm, but when that persists it leads to chronic tightness and rigidity in the body and our mind.

The workshop will be experiential learning where you will uncover where your body is holding on to stress and tension and learn how to listen to your body and release it. This will be a heartfelt and multidimensional approach to connecting with the intelligence of your system, where you will create safety, trust and understanding within self. Belonging begins within ourselves, and this workshop will help you create coherence within mind, body and soul, where you will experience more peace, clarity and relaxation.

Throughout the session, we'll move through the five Mental Health Awareness concepts: Be Active, Give, Keep Learning, Connect and Take Notice. We will explore through these not as ideas to tick off, but as something to be felt, noticing what the body is holding, learning to listen to it, reconnecting through movement and discovering that our capacity to connect with others begins with how connected we feel within ourselves.

This is an invitation to come home to your body and to experience belonging not only as something we find around us, but as something we can cultivate from within.

I look forward to guiding you on this journey of exploration and self discovery.

With an open heart,
Tala Duncan
