Event description

WHAT TIME IS IT? IT’S LUNCH TIME!

The Slow Press, an independent food magazine from Singapore, will be coming to Magenta House on 9 March! Together, we’ll be hosting a Sunday lunch-table gathering inspired by The Slow Press Vol. 6: Best Before

Mariam from Magenta House and Christy from The Slow Press will be preparing dishes and refreshments inspired by the stories in the magazine, together with a sharing and open discussion with guests! From preserving familial relationships with salt, hearing about frustratingly slow changes in food quality for migrant workers, secret rice saving societies, and more – let's gather in conversation.

About The Slow Press

The Slow Press (est. 2021) is an independent food magazine from Singapore, fixated on the rich stories behind what we eat. Through longform journalism, design, and illustration, the magazine seeks to bring Singapore’s vibrant food heritage to the foreground in an introspective, yet quirky and fun way. We want to shed light on the ways of looking at food to help you truly appreciate the goodness that goes into your stomach.

[First image] Two books are placed on a yellow background. The book title says 'The Slow Press' and the cover is dotted with puffy stickers of a cake, salt box, canned food and other food items adorn the front cover.

[Second image] A graphic illustration shows two rectangle cans of fish and a partial view of cutlery, plate, and napkins on blue acid-wash background. The top line reads: "Freshly-caught stories from Singapore to Sydney!" Underneath it is a magenta-coloured can with the words 'Best Before 9 March'. Below it is a partially-opened yellow can revealing rows of fish, with the words  'The Slow Press at Magenta House'. Its orange tag reads: 'Tickets - Link in Bio', a reference to an Instagram click-through link.
