Awaken your heart and mind at the inaugural Big Love Festival 2024!

Join us in celebrating 50 years of Chenrezig Institute and Tibetan Buddhism in Australia.

Held on the vast grounds of Chenrezig Institute, Sunshine Coast, the Big Love Festival brings together Buddhist teachers, art, live music, talks, and practices for the mind and heart such as yoga and meditation, culture, community, Dharma kids activities, international culinary delights and more.

We are already more than 75% sold out for the Big Love Festival due to a wonderful uptake of full festival tickets. Please secure any remaining single-day tickets or full festival tickets as soon as possible!

Festival times:

Daily 8:30 am - 8:00 pm.
(Note: For those attending the Lama Tsongkhapa Bhumtsok puja in the Gompa, this begins at 8:30 am and you can gain entry from 8:00am for this. Events in other areas of the property will commence at 10:00 am).

THURSDAY 26TH SEPTEMBER

Join us for the opening day of the festival, including Lama Tsongkhapa Bhumtsok puja led by Geshe Tenzin Zopa in the gompa from 8:30 am, practices, talks, and workshops in the Garden of Enlightenment from 10 am including Yoga for Interconnectedness with Nicky Eiras, Tibetan Songs & Dance Performance with Topgyal and Tsering, Chanting with the Sera Je Monks, Fascinating Teachings and Conversations with the Geshes and other outstanding teachers in the Nalanda Masters Garden, Guided Meditations in the Wellbeing Centre, Art displays, Dharma Kids activities morning and afternoon, a Welcome to Country with Aunty Bridgette Chilli Davis and an impressive Lantern Parade Light Offering on dusk, culminating with a beautiful Evening Concert with Sacred Earth.

FRIDAY 27TH SEPTEMBER

On the second day of the festival, the Lama Tsongkhapa Bhumtsok puja led by Geshe Tenzin Zopa in the gompa. In the Garden of Enlightenment from 10:00 am, experience a Yoga for Loving-Kindness session with Erin Lee featuring live music with Chris Lane, a moving performance by New World Rhythm Choir, a powerful & intentional talk by Gwyn Williams, Chanting with the Sera Je Monks, Q&A with a full Geshe panel, guided meditations in the Wellbeing Centre, Art Displays, Geshe teachings in the Nalanda Masters Garden, Dharma Kids activities morning and afternoon, an impressive Lantern Parade Light Offering on dusk, culminating with a heart-opening evening concert with Tenzin Choegyal.

SATURDAY 28TH SEPTEMBER

It was on this day 50 years ago when it all began! Join us in celebrating our final day of the Big Love Festival with the continuing Lama Tsongkhapa Bhumtsok puja led by Geshe Tenzin Zopa in the gompa, beautiful sessions out in the Garden of Enlightenment starting from 10:00 am including Yoga with Vanessa Rudge , insightful talks with the Geshes, Corey Jackson and Indigenous Artist and Teacher Jandamarra Cadd, a Khaita Tibetan Joyful Dance Workshop, Chanting with the Sera Je Monks, guided meditations in the Wellbeing Centre, Art Displays, Geshe teachings and conversations in the Nalanda Masters Garden, Dharma Kids activities morning and afternoon, an impressive Lantern Parade Light Offering on dusk, culminating with a celebratory 50th celebration in the evening featuring a moving soundscape of live music featuring Dubarray and Chris Lane.

Refund policy

Refund requests made more than 45 days prior to the festival start date: 100% refund. Refund requests made between 30-45 days prior to the festival start date: 50% refund. Refund requests made less than 15 days prior to the festival start date: No refund will be provided. All refund requests must be submitted in writing to biglovefestival@chenrezig.com.au In the unlikely event that the festival is cancelled for reasons beyond our control e.g. Government mandates, more than two weeks out from the festival, 20% of your ticket fee will be non-refundable, 80% refundable. In the unlikely event that the festival is cancelled for reasons beyond our control with less than two weeks prior to the festival, we will provide you with a credit to one of our future events. In the unlikely event the festival is cancelled by the organisers for reasons within our control, we will fully refund your ticket. The organisers are not liable for any additional expenses incurred by attendees, such as travel or accommodation costs. Please only purchase your ticket if you agree to these refund terms.

Chenrezig Institute is a Buddhist centre and retreat for meditation, study, and spiritual growth.

Chenrezig Institute was established in 1974, being the first Tibetan Buddhist Centre in Australia and one of the oldest in the west.

Located in the hinterland of the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, the place has flourished into a dedicated facility for Buddhist education and practice. The property and land were consecrated in September 1974 as a place where sentient beings can come to learn Dharma, meditate, purify and collect merits.

Our centre is home to a Tibetan teacher, resident nuns and monks, and a community of lay students, volunteers, and guests. A range of Buddhist and secular programs are offered, through which people’s minds and hearts can be transformed for the benefit of others.

Many great Buddhist masters including His Holiness the Dalai Lama, many rinpoches, yogis and Tibetan and western sangha, have been hosted here while teaching their profound wisdom, insights and practices on the Buddhist path.

As well as our beautiful meditation hall, the very heart of our centre, we also offer a vegetarian cafe, extensive library, art studio, our Garden of Enlightenment memorial gardens, and extensive rainforest grounds, all of which are open to the general public. A range of simple accommodation is available for those wishing to stay.

Chenrezig Institute was the first centre (outside the Indian sub-continent) of the international Tibetan Buddhist organisation, The Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT) an organisation founded by two amazing Tibetan masters, Lama Thubten Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche.
