This event has passed Get Tickets

Event description

There is currently no cure for spinal cord injury. However, in most traumatic cases, some neurons are spared within the damaged spinal cord. What if remaining connections could be leveraged to promote recovery of movement and sensation?

This talk will discuss how the BioSpine research project is approaching this problem and how the team is rethinking the design and engineering underpinning rehabilitation by presenting some of the results from the latest human studies and suggestions on future developments.

Speaker Bio:

Dr Claudio Pizzolato received a Master's degree in Mechatronic Engineering from the University of Padova (Italy) and moved to Australia to complete a PhD in computational biomechanics (Griffith University). Claudio is now a research lead within the Griffith Centre of Biomedical and Rehabilitation Engineering at Griffith University, focusing on development of human digital twins and their application to rehabilitation. Claudio leads the BioSpine research project on neural recovery after spinal cord injury.

Location - Griffith Innovation Centre (Gx01_1.10), 16 Nexus Way Southport

The event will be followed by light catering.
