TLC Bird Call Recording - Land for Wildlife Workshop 2026
Description
If you are interested in recording the birds on your property, this workshop will be an excellent opportunity to learn more about the species that visit you.
You will learn how to record and identify bird calls, using just your own smartphone and free apps. You will also learn how to process recorded calls and upload them so that they can contribute to improving those apps and help scientists fill important gaps in our knowledge. Whether or not you intend to upload calls, come along to learn more about bird calls and what’s behind this revolutionary science.
ABOUT THE DAY
This event will be run by wildlife ecologists, Erin Harris and Ramit Singal, through funding provided by the Wedgetail Foundation. Land for Wildlife Coordinator Anna Povey will also be there to learn the techniques and to support you.
This is also a great chance to meet other Land for Wildlife members.
We will spend some time indoors and some walking on tracks through the bush.
You will learn about:
identifying bird calls using your smartphone and available free apps
the different kinds of recording equipment
how to record bird calls effectively
how to improve recording quality
organising and cleaning recordings
uploading recordings to open-access databases.
