Description

One year ago in pouring rain our local community planted it's first Black Cockatoo Pocket Forest as a demonstration for local residents and others to show how the Black Cockatoo forest can be restored to Boorloo Perth, pocket forest by pocket forest.  It’s fair to say that the growth of the forest has amazed everyone and inspired many. Come along to the Black Cockatoo pocket forest’s 1st birthday to hear about the growth of the forest and learn about what is to come. Dr Grey Coupland and community members will also be available to discuss the forest and answer any questions. 

Program

9am - 10.00am Walking tour of the Black Cockatoo Forest, Food Forest and Soil Hub

10am onwards Cake. tea and coffee

10.30 - 11am Birthday tributes and launch of iNaturalist SUGi Black Cockatoo Forest site

11am-12noon Socialising

Birthday tributes will be provided by Ian Kininmonth (TTV chair), Mayor Alison Xamon (City of Vincent), Dr Grey Coupland (Pocket Forest WA/Murdoch University), Cat Ferrie (Rotary) local residents Anne and Joe Courtney (Claisebrook Catchment Group) and Bette Parker (Warndoolier).

There will also be a number of kids activities (weather permitting) including colouring in Black Cockatoo cutouts, and leaf tracing and for the older kids, citizen science activities using the iNaturalist app.

Some tables will be set up with information about:

  • Black Cockatoo Forest project

  • Forest in a Box registration

  • iNaturalist and how to use it

  • Sales of Black Cockatoo cutouts, soil mix and biochar

  • Healthy Soils information

What to bring:

  • Sunsmart clothes or rainjacket/umbrella if raining.

  • Coffee/tea cup

Birthday cake, tea and coffee will be provided. Takeaway barista made coffee is also available from the nearby Floreat Athena clubrooms.
