Sophie Dumaresq and wet sahara
…Is somebody gonna match my freak? is an exhibition between the two multidisciplinary artists wet sahara (Asil Habara) and Sophie Dumaresq. The exhibition title is taken from the title of the pop song by Tinashe that once went viral. The exhibition is a tongue-in-check nod to the two artists shared sense of humour and interest in online popular culture, shit posting and the very real-life currents behind driving viral trends.
Sophie Dumaresq and Asil Habara were the 2024 recipients of the M16 Artspace ANU Emerging Artists Support Scheme residencies, generously supported by the Narrabundah Family Medical Practice.
𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝟮 | Creek
Kirsten Wehner
Creek explores life along Weston Creek, a little-known waterway in suburban Canberra. Once a system of intermittent rills and wetlands rich with plants, insects and birds, today the creek is often seen only as a polluted stormwater drain. Asking what it might mean to care for this disordered place, Creek presents drawings, sculpture and experimental collaborations that honour work to rehabilitate the catchment and invite attention to the waterway’s possibility as a place of cultural/ecological flourishing.
Kirsten Wehner was the 2024 recipient of the M16 Artspace Environmental Artist Residency, generously sponsored by ConceptSix.
𝗘𝘅𝗵𝗶𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗿𝘂𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 Friday 24 January to Sunday 16 February 2025
