Event description

M16 Artspace is pleased to announce the opening of three new exhibitions.

๐—š๐—ฎ๐—น๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜† ๐Ÿญ| โ€˜On Show โ€“ Sustainabilityโ€™

Canberra Art Workshop

โ€˜On Show โ€“ Sustainabilityโ€™ is a group exhibition by the members of the Canberra Art Workshop (CAW), focusing on the theme of creating a world that sustains both us and future generations, alongside our natural environment.

๐—š๐—ฎ๐—น๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜† ๐Ÿฎ| โ€˜Women Who Rendered Blindโ€™
Sepideh Farzam

Two years ago, Iranian women protested restrictive laws, focusing on eliminating barriers to gender equality, notably against mandatory veiling. Security forces' violent responses, including blinding protestors, sparked outrage. Inspired by these events, Sepideh Farzam creates textile installations to honour women's resilience and advocate for change, symbolising their struggles globally.

๐—š๐—ฎ๐—น๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜† ๐Ÿฏ| โ€˜Life in the Systemโ€™

Melanie Olde

Life in the System represents Oldeโ€™s ongoing exploration of hand-woven 3-dimensional fabric forms that mimic living tissue, life-like structures and functions. In this new work, Olde uses weaving as a metaphor for complexity within life systems: the small individual elements and rules acting cumulatively upon the whole, resulting in emergent behaviour.

M16 Artspace operates on the lands of the Ngunnawal and Ngambri people. We honour and pay our respects to their traditional custodians. We acknowledge this land always was and always will be the country of Australiaโ€™s First Nations People. Sovereignty was never ceded.
