Blue Gum Turtle Festival - Science in action
Description
Discover. Protect. Track.
Get ready for a fun-filled day of science, nature and adventure at the Blue Gum Turtle Festival! This exciting community event celebrates the amazing turtles that call our local wetlands home and gives families the chance to become real citizen scientists for the day.
Whether you're a budding scientist, a nature lover or simply looking for a great day out with family and friends, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Start your journey at the Turtle Science Hub, where you can explore turtle anatomy displays, discover what lives beneath the surface of our wetlands through microscope investigations and watch live turtle tracking demonstrations. Complete activities at each station and collect stamps in your Junior Turtle Ranger Passport as you learn more about these fascinating animals and the challenges they face in the wild.
Join one of our guided Wetlands Discovery Walks to explore the beautiful Blue Gum Lake environment. Along the way, you'll learn about turtle habitats, birdlife, biodiversity and how everyday people are helping scientists collect important conservation data.
Meet local Turtle Trackers and hear their stories about helping monitor and protect turtles in our community. Learn about the equipment they use, the science behind their work and how you can get involved in future conservation projects.
Families can also enjoy the Wetland Market environmental organisations and community groups. Browse native plants, learn sustainable living tips and relax while enjoying the festival atmosphere.
Join us as we celebrate our wetlands, discover the science of turtle conservation and work together to protect these incredible creatures for future generations.
