Book a Bench @ Our Leith Community Workshop
Description
In order to attend one of our Open Workshop sessions you MUST have first completed a Safety Induction.
Overview:
To welcome you into our new Leith Community Workshop, each session will start with a refresher induction to introduce you to the new space. Every member will need to attend once (unless you have completed your Safety Induction at this site). Please arrive on time so that our volunteers can take everyone through this together.
What to expect?
During the workshop session you will have access to a wide range of large-format woodworking tools and a workbench space. You will be joined by other members in a friendly space of learning, sharing and practicing. You will work on a project of your own choosing.
If you're looking for some ideas to get started, we have a few examples that volunteers will be happy to guide you on.
Please note: Our volunteers are on hand to help keep you safe and answer questions, however these sessions are not taught classes and a certain amount of independent work is expected.
🪵 We have a variety of recycled wood available for small projects - donations welcome!
🔩 We also have a small range of consumables (e.g. sand papers, screws, nails) available for you to use in exchange for a small donation.
🥽 We have PPE (mask, ear defenders, safety glasses) for all attendees but we recommend you to bring your own if you have them.
What we expect from you
We expect all members, volunteers and staff to follow and uphold our shared Code of Conduct.
Always ask volunteers if you are unsure of anything, and always listen to them - they’re there to help you.
Follow the volunteers’ instructions to use machines safely (this includes always wearing PPE, tying long hair back, and not wearing loose clothing or jewellery).
Please wear closed toe, flat, non-slippery shoes.
Have fun, be kind, and stay safe!
Pricing
We have two ticket types available to purchase when you book a bench - these reflect the two types of membership available at ETL.
For Standard Memberships, the tickets are priced at £10.
For Concession Memberships, the tickets are priced at £3.
As an organisation we trust our members to select the ticket that is reflective of their membership. Please help us continue to thrive! We are a charity and want to be able to provide the best service possible to all our users.

- How accessible is the Leith Community Workshop?
We are committed to continually improving the accessibility of our spaces and invite you to contact us directly on hello@edinburghtoollibrary.org.uk if you would like to discuss specific requirements or need any support planning your visit.
Within the workshop space we have a number of aids to help improve the quality of your time spent with us. These include: a hearing loop, gripping aids and height adjustable bench seats.
Support workers and personal assistants are included within the price of your ticket.
- Can I store my project in the workshop?
Unfortunately we’re not able to store your projects in the workshop. Our community workshop is shared and used by different groups throughout the week, and we need as much space available for the magic of making to happen.
Booking Etiquette
We only have a limited number of spaces available each week. To allow all of our members to have equal access to the workshop, please only book two sessions per month in advance.
