Book Doof x Recess
Description
Book Doof — the rave for readers — is gearing up for its second Canberra session at Recess Coffee, Griffith.
Recess is opening up after hours and will be spinning live vinyl, turned low enough to keep the quiet, and serving a bespoke menu made for the golden hours, from coffee through to dinner: cakes, biscuits, UNDER sourdough and a few extras to keep you going between chapters. Good times, hot coffee, nice food, good people. Now add quiet reading.
Here's how it works: bring whatever you're reading, find a spot, and read in the same room as everyone else. No small talk required, no book club discussion, no pressure. Just the simple, slightly rebellious pleasure of reading with strangers instead of alone. There's time to chat at the end, and if you'd like a little murmur with your reading, book a seat in the courtyard.
We'll also have ARCs and proofs, advance copies of books that aren't on shelves yet, yours to take home. And there's a book swap: bring one you've finished and loved, and leave with one you haven't read yet (and will probably love). Then come back and keep swapping.
Canberra Writers Festival are proudly supporting this event, and every ticket goes into the draw to win 2 tickets to the festival, running 15–18 October. Read now, see the authors the following week.
Come alone, bring a mate, your housemate or your book club. Book Doof is for everyone.
