Books@Stones event: Jangar the Legendary Camel by Tseren Byambasuren with Tess Rowley

Join us at Books@Stones on Tuesday 28 October for a special in-conversation event with authors Tseren Byambasuren and Tess Rowley to celebrate the launch of their illustrated bilingual children's book, Jangar the Legendary Camel.

Jangar the Legendary Camel is a bilingual Mongolian-English tale that retells a beloved folktale through a modern lens. Written in collaboration with award-winning Australian author Tess Rowley, the book combines heartfelt storytelling with vibrant visuals to connect children with cultural heritage, and the enduring power of myth.

Conveying a symbolic tale of responsibility, connection to the land, importance of cultural heritage and professions that study the rock art, the storyline follows the narrative of a young boy’s family. With vibrant artwork and simple, heartfelt language, this book shows that history isn’t just found in textbooks—it’s alive in the landscapes, animals, and stories that surround us.

Tseren Byambasuren is a Mongolian-born PhD student at Griffith University, researching ancient rock art and the stories her ancestors left behind. Her children’s book Jangar the Legendary Camel brings to life a beloved Mongolian folktale through bilingual storytelling and vivid illustrations. Inspired by a symbolic camel with antlers and her passion for cultural heritage, Tseren co-created this story to spark curiosity in young readers. She hopes it will inspire a new generation to explore their roots, connect with the land, and find meaning in stories of the past.
