Boorloo/Perth Story Caretaker Workshop: Respecting Story Holders and their Stories
Event description
DO YOU TELL OR SHARE STORIES? OF COURSE YOU DO.
BUT HAVE YOU CONSIDERED WHO GETS TO TELL THE STORY, WHO IS MISSING, AND WHO IT BENEFITS?
Stories can create positive change. When they are led by the community, stories become even more powerful. So, how can we better create and the tell these stories safely and ethically?
This introductory workshop will support individuals and organisations who create, tell and share Stories to:
- rethink how to tell stories more powerfully by placing the Story Holder community at the centre
- reflect on their own current storytelling policies, processes and practices (the 3Ps)
- identify strategies to implement safe, ethical storytelling aligning the 3Ps
Two facilitators from Our Race Community will take participants through the five principles of Transformational Ethical Story Telling (T.E.S.T.) framework. This introductory workshop will allow participants to understand how each principle can be applied and to determine which principles and actions need to be prioritised for each organisation’s Story Telling and community engagement processes. Key questions will be posed to allow participants to navigate the challenges faced when engaging with Story Holders as well as examples of how T.E.S.T. has been implemented effectively.
Cost
We always want to make sure our workshops are accessible for all, including financially and therefore we offer organisation-supported tickets ($100 each) and community priced tickets including Pay What You Can/Feel and a limited number of Our Race Community-funded tickets.
As a Charity with DGR Status you can also make a tax-deductible donation which goes towards our Story Holder Fund*.
* Our Story Holder Fund is a fund set aside for Artists and Storytellers of Colour who perform at our events where no other funding is available. We are committed to centring and amplifying voices of those who have been historically excluded and ensuring their craft and artistry are respected and honoured, including being paid fairly.
From Workshop to Implementing T.E.S.T.
Most organisations we have engaged with have started with the introductory workshop with many on the journey to implement the T.E.S.T. framework within key projects, programs and events.
Some of the organisations who have begun implementing the T.E.S.T. Framework include Welcoming Australia, APRA AMCOS NATSIMO and Songmakers Teams, Women of Colour Australia, Medecins San Frontieres Australia, Carbon Neutral Cities Alliance, and NSW Department of Health Local Health Districts.
