The day will begin with a dynamic presentation by Associate Professor Lyndsey Collins-Praino, from the University of Adelaide, who will share insights from her latest research into traumatic brain injury and the mechanisms that may help predict the onset or progression of neurological conditions such as Parkinsons and Dementia. She is also a passionate advocate for involving people with lived experience in research and will discuss how her projects are reducing barriers to participation and improving real-world impact.
After a short morning tea break, we’ll hear from Nurse Specialist Angela Sayas from The Hospital Research Foundation Parkinson’s/Stroke team. Angela will provide an overview of how the team delivers free nursing support to people living with Parkinson’s, and how they help empower individuals to continue embracing and living life. This will be followed by a presentation on the Dementia Friendly Communities movement, with Liz Withall, Community Development Officer from Dementia Australia.
The event will also feature a powerful interview with at least one person living with Dementia, sharing their personal journey, including their struggles, insights, learnings, and hopes for the future.
To conclude the event, the Embrace Life After Brain Injury Award will be announced by our Presenting Partner, Lifetime Support Authority, which will be followed by a light lunch.
