Event description

Our Mission: To help modern humans recognise the stress signals we have normalised, so that the next generation grows up with calmer, more connected parents, partners, leaders, and friends.

Why bother?

We previously didn't need to think much about the way we use our bodies. Humans have spent 96.7% of our evolutionary history as hunter gatherers (300K years), 3.3% in earliest form of civilisation (10K years), and less than 0.01% with the internet (30 years).

This speed of advancements is now FAR outpacing our rate of our natural evolution. This means it has never been more important to be on top of the way our bodies are responding to the (un)natural environment around us.

In this immersive breathwork session, Daniel Augustine and Brett Burcher team up to go deeper into how to bring calm into the chaos of our modern world, and how to use the conscious breath to adapt to various situations we will find ourselves in within the modern world.

Who will be running this session?

Brett, a father, big wave surfer, and primary school teacher, knows all too well the importance of remaining calm under chaotic conditions. Brett has used breath to work through situations most would have let dictate the rest of their lives.

He will share one of the most horrific events that occurred while out surfing on a secluded beach in NSW, and how he used breath to come back home and ensure the trauma did not enslave his personality. Brett's approach is grounded in a humble style that anyone can relate to.

Within minutes of meeting Brett, you will feel a calmness and presence that will instantly regulate your own nervous system and relax you right into the session.

Brett will guide you through some of his own personal techniques he uses when dealing with crashing waves and also screaming children.

Daniel, raised by a single mother in South London who was kicked out of the home at 17 years of age for having a "coloured child", saw firsthand the impact that judgement and "not belonging" can have on a person and their children.

He spent years trying to unlearn the trauma passed on. Suffering from dyslexia and anxiety growing up, he wanted to find clearer ways to understand the mind and body. Daniel's approach is stripped of the woo woo and dives into what is real in people's lives and the narratives holding them back. Working in the creative and corporate field for over 15 years, he now works with tech companies such as Google, Spotify and Salesforce to bring awareness to the impact of stress on the body.

Dan will use creative improv techniques to drop you out of your thinking mind and have you laughing at the absurdity of the stiffness we create as adults when we catch our own patterns.

Why Brett and Dan?

Brett and Daniel first met many years ago on their teacher training, where they both experienced the power of breath for very different reasons.

Though from very different backgrounds, they connected through each other's authenticity and light heartedness to all this "mindfulness stuff", and swore they would work together again at some point. They’ll be the first to admit they still get a LOT wrong, but they see the fun in learning and growing together as humans and embracing our pitfalls along the way.

Since then, they’ve been teaching in their respective fields, seeing the impact on people's lives. Years later, this will be the first time they come together to bring everything they’ve learnt into this interactive and engaging session, designed to drop you out of the thinking mind and into an understanding of the breath's power to manage some of the most difficult situations life will continue to throw at us in this ever changing world.

What to expect on the day?

Come prepared with an open mind and some comfy clothing. This won’t be like anything you’ve experienced. If you struggle to meditate or find it difficult to connect with mindfulness based chat, this session will offer a new way to connect with your body where other sessions may have fallen short.

Yes, there will be breathwork and a deep release of tension, but you'll also walk away with your own tools on how to manage anxiety, fear, difficult conversations, and how to drop out of the mind and into the body (we'll explain what the f*** that means on the day).

Don't hesitate. You'll remember it forever.

Whether you're planning a big night out for your Saturday, a dinner with friends, or a quiet night in, this session will be set up to have you lean into an amazing weekend, and for some, a new perspective on some unconscious patterns that have been holding you back for years.

The Schedule:

  1. Welcome: light food and tea

  2. Warm up games (drop out of the thinking mind)

  3. Exercise 1: Understanding the unconscious mind through creativity

  4. Exercise 2: Bringing real life situations to breathing

  5. Exercise 3: Immersive Breathwork Session

  6. Integration
