Beginner - Intermediate Level (Some watercolor experience recommended)

By popular demand, we are offering an encore date for Brilliant Birds in Watercolor (previously offered in January 2024).

Learn how to paint vibrant and expressive birds in watercolor. Explore different techniques in painting different types of birds and focus on color palette, values, interpreting light and shadow. Discover how to use bold gestures and basic principles in painting to express mood and movement in your works. Students will learn how to create focus in their painting to captivate the viewer and keep their work fresh and spontaneous. Instructor will give two 30 min quick demos in the beginning of the class and after lunch going over the fundamentals and main topic. Students usually leave with 2 or even 3 finished paintings.

About the Artist: Lyudmila Tomova Clark


Lyudmila Tomova is an award-winning artist, well-recognized nationally and internationally for her unique impressionist style. Currently, she paints figures, portraits, murals and landscapes in oil, watercolor and acrylic. Inspired by nature, her work has also been highly recognized in numerous plein air paint-out events. She merges abstract and realistic elements together to create mood, movement and an impression of the world around and within us. Her painting style adds spontaneity, boldness and elegance all at once telling magical stories and evoking complex emotions. Originally from Sofia, Bulgaria, Lyudmila immigrated to the US in 1990 and lived in New York City working as a full-time painter, editorial illustrator and designer, exhibiting nationally and abroad. Her strong education in Classical realism from the Sofia’s Academy of Fine Arts in Bulgaria and later from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York where she earned a BFA degree in Illustration, as well as her diverse artistic experience has established her as one of the most versatile and prolific artists in the Triangle.
