BSL Film Club - Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution
Description
BSL Film Club is back on Thursday 23 July with a free community screening of Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution (2020) for Disability Pride Month.
Crip Camp is an Academy Award-nominated documentary following the young people who attended Camp Jened, a ramshackle, free-spirited summer camp for Disabled teenagers in the 1970s. These campers later went on to become pioneers of the disability civil rights movement in the U.S., catalysing the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act. Crip Camp is a riveting and empowering tale of community strength and the fight for civil rights.
Directed, written, and co-produced by Nicole Newnham and James LeBrecht.
“If I have to feel thankful about an accessible bathroom, when am I ever gonna be equal in the community?” - Judy Heumann, Crip Camp
