A multi-instrumentalist, Cannonball Adderley is best-known for his work on alto saxophone and for his recordings with Miles Davis and with his own small groups.
His group, the Cannonball Adderley Quintet, was one of the biggest draw cards for any harp bop and soul movement, with there bluesy undertones and hip groves everyone was toe tapping. Songs made famous by Adderley and his bands include "This Here" (written by Bobby Timmons), "The Jive Samba", "Work Song" (written by Nat Adderley), "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy" (written by Joe Zawinul) and "Walk Tall" (written by Zawinul, Marrow, and Rein). With over 30 albums to his credit and being a major influence in the jazz world, Brisbane saxophonist Bradley McCarthy decided to pay tribute to Cannonball Adderley and created “Cannon Fodder”, a show featuring Adderley’s incredible musicBrad McCarthy has once again enlisted the help of some of the finest jazz cadets in Brisbane for Brad McCarthy’s “Cannon Fodder”. This quintet will present the music of one of the all-time titans of the Alto-Saxophone and hard-bop movement in Cannonball Adderley. The quintet will infect the soul and get those feet tapping will some of the classics from the Cannonball Quintet. Let the Fun and Games begin!
