Assessing Decision Making Capacity — Full-Day Masterclass for Psychologists (Singapore)
Description
Can this person make this decision? It sounds like a simple question. Families, doctors and lawyers are asking psychologists this more and more, and the answer is rarely simple.
This full-day masterclass is a chance to slow down and work through it together. Dr Judy Tang OAM is a clinical neuropsychologist who has assessed capacity in many contested cases, including some that went to court. She will share what she has learned along the way, the tricky cases included.
Dr Tang will share:
how the Mental Capacity Act 2008 works in everyday practice
how to run a capacity assessment, from the first phone call to the final report
how to assess decisions about money and wills
how to notice pressure, undue influence and elder abuse
what to expect when you are asked to be an expert witness
In this masterclass, you will learn to choose the right tests and explain why, apply the legal test with confidence, and write reports that hold up well when they are questioned.
The day is relaxed and hands-on, with real cases, small-group exercises and lots of time for your questions. You will take home a workbook, case exercises, a contested-will case study and a report template. Light refreshments provided.
For psychologists and postgraduate psychology students. Places are limited.
Tickets: SGD 250 standard, SGD 210 early bird (until 18 October), SGD 150 postgraduate students (please bring your student ID).
