National Recycling Week - Where does your recycling go? Behind the scenes tour of CAWRA's recycling facility
Description
Have you ever wondered what happens to the contents of your yellow recycling bin once it leaves your home?
Does it really get recycled? How do the mixed materials get separated? Where does it go next?
Come and see for yourself at the Central Adelaide Waste and Recycling Authority's (CAWRA) Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in Kilburn.
During National Recycling Week, CAWRA is offering free public tours to residents of the Cities of Port Adelaide Enfield and Charles Sturt.
Each tour will take you behind the scenes where you will get to see the recycling process first-hand. The tour begins with a presentation before guests are taken out onto the viewing platform where you will see your household recyclables sorted and processed by a combination of staff, disc screens, conveyor belts, optical sorters and balers.
Places are limited to 20 people and bookings are essential. If you are on the waitlist, you will be notified as soon as a spot becomes available. If there is enough interest, an additional tour will be made available.
Tours of the CAWRA facility are disability compliant with a lift and wheelchair accessible platforms.
Tours are suitable for people 10 years and older.
