    Event description

It is with great pleasure that we extend to you an invitation to a special dinner on the evening of 8 November 2024 in commemoration of the landmark 25th anniversary of a defining moment in Australia’s history—the defeat of the 1999 referendum on a republic and the affirmation of our constitution. This event marked a significant reaffirmation of Australia’s constitutional monarchy, a system that has served our nation with stability, continuity, and unity since our federation in 1901.

Hosted by the Australians for Constitutional Monarchy, this dinner will be graced by the presence of a statesman whose leadership played a pivotal role in preserving our constitutional order—the Hon John Howard OM AC SSI, former Prime Minister of Australia. His vision and steadfast commitment to the Crown have left an indelible mark on our national identity, and we are honoured to celebrate this occasion in his company.

The dinner will feature a conversation with Mr Howard and those leading the 'No' campaign in 1999.

The conversation will be about the campaign, the many years following it, and our future. One question many people are asking is whether we have seen the demise of the 'politicians republic'.

The evening will constitute the Sydney Session of our 25th Annual National Conference. National Conferences have previously been held in cities as diverse as Perth, Melbourne, Wagga Wagga, Brisbane, and the Gold Coast. Some time ago, we decided to hold sessions of each conference in different locations.

Accordingly, the Melbourne Session of the 25th National Conference, a joint function between ACM and the Monarchist League in Australia-Victorian Chapter, to celebrate the Royal Visit, will be held at the Melbourne Club on 14 November. This is appropriately His Majesty The King’s actual birthday. For information on this event, please email Paul Webster at paul.webster@pwwebster.com.au

Other sessions will be announced in due course.

We hope you will join us for an evening of reflection, conversation, and fellowship as we celebrate not only the preservation of our constitutional monarchy but the enduring principles of democracy, liberty, and heritage that it represents.
