Celebrating Curly Sedge Creek at Wollert Community Farm

Join us for a special morning at Curly Sedge Creek at Wollert Community Farm, where you'll learn, take action and connect with community while helping care for this unique waterway.

Curly Sedge Creek flows into Merri Creek and is home to Melbourne's only known population of the endangered Curly Sedge (Carex tasmanica), as well as the Growling Grass Frog.

Your morning begins with a cultural walk led by the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation's Education Unit, offering an opportunity to learn about the cultural significance of the landscape, its waterways and the importance of Caring for Country.

Next, you'll roll up your sleeves and help restore habitat by planting Curly Sedge and other locally grown semi-aquatic species from nugal biik plants and seeds, a social enterprise situated at Wollert Community Farm and run by Whittlesea Community Connections (WCC). Together, you'll contribute to the ongoing restoration of this important ecosystem and create habitat for native wildlife.

The morning concludes with a delicious community lunch, generously provided by WCC’s Food Collective Café & Catering social enterprise, a chance to connect with fellow participants and celebrate your contribution to restoring Curly Sedge Creek.

Whether you're passionate about conservation, curious to learn more about local biodiversity or simply looking to spend time in nature, this is a wonderful opportunity to experience the Birrarung catchment while making a positive difference.

• Most Riverfest events are free, and many have limited places with long waitlists. Please only book if you're confident you can attend, so others don't miss out. Bookings are limited to 2 tickets for smaller events and 4 tickets for larger events.

This event will be held at nugal biik Plants and Seeds, 521 Craigieburn Road East, Wollert.

• The venue is not easily accessible by public transport, so we recommend travelling by car where possible.

• Please park in the nugal biik Plants and Seeds car park (see attached map).

• The walk covers up to 2 km across paddocks and alongside water bodies. The terrain is uneven and may be slippery, so sturdy, enclosed footwear is recommended.

• This is an outdoor event, so please dress appropriately for the weather and bring sun or rain protection as needed.

• Accessible toilet facilities are available at nugal biik Plants and Seeds.
