Description

Service and Creative Skills Australia (SaCSA) invites Cemetery and Crematorium workers to participate in an industry workshop exploring the current and future workforce needs of cemetery and crematorium operations.

This workshop is an opportunity for people working directly in cemeteries and crematoria to share their practical experience of how work is undertaken today, where specialist skills and knowledge are required, how workers develop their capabilities, and how roles and workforce requirements are changing.

The workshop will explore:

  • Jobs, roles and work functions: The roles and work functions across cemetery and crematorium operations, what they involve in practice, how roles are changing, and whether current job titles and occupational classifications accurately reflect the work.

  • Skills and specialist capability: The skills, knowledge and specialist capabilities needed across burial, grave preparation, memorialisation, grounds maintenance, crematorium operations and other relevant work functions.

  • Regulation, safety and professional judgement: How regulatory, work health and safety, environmental and operational requirements affect the work, including where experience and professional judgement are particularly important.

  • Learning, training and capability development: How workers develop their skills through formal qualifications, workplace learning, mentoring, industry and equipment-specific training and experience; what training is currently used; where there may be gaps; and how existing skills and experience can be recognised.

  • Career pathways and progression: How people enter the sector and progress into specialist, supervisory, management or other higher-level roles, including any barriers to career development.

  • Cultural capability and changing practices: The skills and knowledge needed to work respectfully with different religious, cultural and First Nations practices, and how changes in burial, cremation, memorialisation, technology, environmental practices and community expectations may affect the workforce towards 2035.

Who should attend:

Cemetery and crematorium workers and industry practitioners, including cemetery operations and grounds staff, crematorium operators, burial and grave preparation workers, memorialisation staff, supervisors and managers, and people working within local government, cemetery trusts, memorial parks and other organisations responsible for cemetery and crematorium operations.

Your practical experience and knowledge will help build a clearer picture of the cemetery and crematorium workforce and the skills and capabilities it needs for the future.

We look forward to your participation in this important industry workshop.
