CERC Forum :: Transfer
Event description
Please join us for the CERC (Creative Ecologies Research Cluster) Forum at the UniSC Art Gallery. This event will feature a Welcome to Country with Lyndon Davis and preview of Beeyali Tallo Billa ahead of the 2025 Humpback Whale Season launch, a floor talk in the Transfer exhibition with curator Rachael Vance, a presentation on interdisciplinary textile and music research from Joseph Burgess, and a showcase of CERC research recently featured at ISEA2025 (International Symposium for Electronic and Experimental Arts) in South Korea.
Transfer focuses on contemporary visual artists with connections to Southeast Asia who explore textiles as a medium. Spanning embroidery, stitching, sculptural installations, film, wall-based works, performance and participatory pieces, the exhibition showcases a proliferation of textiles and fibre art practices that aim to reinterpret cultural heritage through a contemporary lens at the intersection of art and life.
The selected artists are recognised as important figures in this conversation, offering work that reimagines and elevates deeply personal practices while transmitting cultural experiences and traditions. The diversity of pieces on display act as intimate records that carry meaning and impart fresh perspectives on how culture is passed down from generation to generation and how it changes over time.
CERC Forum with UniSC Art Gallery
The CERC Forum, held quarterly in collaboration with the UniSC Art Gallery and Creative Ecologies Research Cluster, creates an engaging platform for connection, knowledge exchange, and inspiration. These dynamic evening events feature short research presentations from UniSC established and emerging researchers along with guest speakers exploring a diversity of current research themes.
The Forum provides a platform to connect and showcase innovative works-in-progress that demonstrate creative research methodologies in action, inspiring new possibilities for collaboration. The events are open to researchers, students, community members, and industry partners, expanding research networks and cross-pollinating ideas across the diverse communities of practice forming around CERC (Creative Ecologies Research Cluster).
