Description

Emergency Pedagogy (Trauma) Crisis Intervention Training Intensive
Delivered by Bernd Ruf

1–8 October | Willunga Steiner School, South Australia

This immersive, week-long training offers a foundational introduction to Emergency Pedagogy, a trauma-informed, humanitarian education approach supporting children, adults, and communities after crisis. Participants explore trauma as a wound rather than an illness, cultivating understanding without premature pathologising.

The training includes the following core modules:

  • Module 1: Trauma as a Wound, Not an Illness & the History of Emergency Pedagogy

  • Module 3: Trauma and Spirituality – Trauma as a Threshold Experience

  • Module 11: Trauma Psychosocial Hygiene – Preventing Burnout and Secondary Trauma

Theory is integrated with practical, embodied methods drawn from play, arts, movement, rhythm, and the creation of safe learning spaces. The training is designed for teachers, allied health professionals, and first- and second-line humanitarian responders working in high-stress or post-crisis environments.
