Event description

Join us for the launch of the Neighbourhood Circle Nights event at the Melbourne Immigration Museum, the evening of 10th August to celebrate Fair Trade Fortnight as part of the Neighbourhood Circle Nights.

Drinks, canapes, on arrival.

Join us for a captivating keynote address by international guest Mitos Urgel, President of the World Fair Trade Organisation (WFTO) Asia and an esteemed international guest speaker. Our special guest Mitos Urgel is traveling from Chiang Mai to discuss the humanitarian crisis on the Thai/ Myanmar border and how Fair Trade is making a difference in the lives of women. With her vast experience representing 120 Fair Trade Organisations in the Asia region, Mitos Urgel will enlighten the audience about the profound impact of Fair Trade artisans worldwide, with a special focus on South East Asia, and their connection to the local Australian community.

During this engaging session, both our guest speaker and a distinguished panel of speakers will share inspiring stories that highlight the transformative power of Fair Trade. Attendees will gain first hand insights into how their purchasing decisions can make a significant difference in alleviating poverty. By supporting artisans who create exquisite goods through traditional crafts, they will discover the power of providing access to markets and empowering communities.

The Keynote will be followed by a panel discussion with Mitos Urguel, Georgina Cohen, Head of Certification at Social Traders, Nick Savaidis Founder of Etiko, and international entrepreneur Jake Almanzor from the Philippines about the importance of certification.

Inclusion: Canapes, Drinks, and cultural entertainment.
