Chasing the Moon
Description
Chasing the Moon brings their unique and entertaining performance style to Petersham Bowling Club, for the launch of their new CD, ‘All the Days’. Inspired by the romantic and swinging sounds of Hot Club Jazz, the band creates a tantalising feast of swing, chanson, Latin, blues and modern sounds. The new CD features original songs and instrumentals coupled with arrangements that tease new threads out of classic tunes. With its balance of soulful ballads, exquisite melodies, Latin flavours and up-tempo tunes, this music is engaging and accessible with the ability to appeal to a wide audience.
Led by Kathy Bluff on violin and vocals and Paul Burjan on saxophones and flute, Chasing the Moon delivers a rich, orchestral sound, combining soulful vocals with swinging violin and saxophone. Garry Steel's accordion weaves across the other instruments bringing an essential Parisian charm.
Respected Sydney jazz guitarist, John Blenkhorn provides rhythmic pulse and exquisite solos, whilst the talented rhythm section, featuring Merv Sequiera on double bass and Mke Quigley on drums, lays down the best of grooves.
"Their evocation of gypsy swing, cool blues and continental jazz styles is peerless among Australian groups. The quality of the arrangements, the virtuosity of the instrumentalists and Kathy Bluff's vocals are simply outstanding." Tony Smith, Trad & Now Magazine
“like walking through a music festival in a European village” Simon Marnie, ABC
