Event description

School Holiday 2 Part Children’s Pottery Workshop - Hanging Clay Bells & Fridge Magnets

This clay workshop is aimed at children aged 6 upwards.  They will learn how to make a pinch pot, decorate it using a variety of methods and add colour using underglazes. Additionally if there is time they can make simple small slab shapes/decorations to turn into fridge magnets.

A pinch pot is a simple form of pottery made by shaping a lump of clay using only your fingers and thumbs. The process involves repeatedly pinching and turning the clay to create a hollow form, in this case a bell. It's one of the oldest and most fundamental pottery techniques, often used as an introduction to hand-building with clay which is a perfect starting place for your young ceramicist!

This workshop is spread over 2 sessions to allow the clay to dry before glazing (painting). The creations will then be taken away to be fired and you will get notified when they are ready to be collected - approx. 4 weeks.

Workshop runs for 2 sessions Monday 22nd September 1-3pm and Thursday 25th September 1-2:30pm at the Ōtorohanga Museum - Church Building, 15 Kakamutu Road (this is a change to the previously advertised location). This workshop has been funded (thanks to Ōtorohanga Creative Community Funding) to reduce the costs to just $35 per person (plus the booking fee of $1.35)
