CANCELLED: Collaborative & Proactive Solutions with Dr. Ross Greene - Albany

Price $799 AUD Get tickets

Event description

Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS) is the evidence-based model that Clinical Psychologist Dr. Ross Greene describes in his influential books The Explosive Child, Lost at School, Lost & Found, and Raising Human Beings.

We will be hosting two courses across two days (both courses/days must be attended).
Thursday 09/05/2024 - Introductory Course
Friday 10/05/2024 - Advanced Course

The CPS model has transformed thinking and practices in countless families, schools, inpatient psychiatric units, and residential and juvenile detention facilities throughout the world, and has been associated with dramatic reductions in adult-child conflict, concerning behaviours, disciplinary referrals, detentions, suspensions, restraints, and seclusions.

The model represents a significant departure from discipline-as-usual: it focuses on solving problems rather than on modifying behaviour, emphasises collaborative rather than unilateral solutions, encourages proactive rather than reactive intervention, de-emphasises diagnostic categories, and provides practical, research-based tools for assessment and intervention.

In these sessions, Dr. Greene will provide an overview of the CPS model, along with more advanced coverage of the nuances of assessment and engaging kids in solving the problems that affect their lives.

COURSES

Introductory Course - Thursday, 9th May 8:30am - 3:30pm

A general overview of the CPS model, including key themes, use of assessment instrumentation, and solving problems collaboratively.

Advanced Course - Friday, 10th May 8:30am - 3:30pm

Dive deeper into various facets of the CPS model. Includes extensive use of video examples and ample time for questions and discussion.

The courses will feature a lecture, video demonstration, and Q & A.

At the conclusion of this training participants will be able to:

  • Describe the five big shifts of the CPS model, including focusing on problems rather than behaviours, the advantages of collaborative (rather than unilateral) problem solving; and the importance and feasibility of proactive (rather than reactive) intervention.
  • Identify the lagging skills and unsolved problems using the Assessment of Lagging Skills and Unsolved Problems(ALSUP).
  • Describe the three basic mechanisms by which adults handle unsolved problems and unmet expectations in kids (Plans A, B, and C) and what is accomplished by each, and the three steps or “ingredients” of Plan B.
  • Describe how to effectively implement Plan B to solve problems, teach skills, and reduce the frequency and intensity of challenging behaviour.
  • Identify the strategies for dealing with the various structural factors in schools that may impede implementation of the CPS model.
  • Describe and deal with the roadblocks commonly encountered in implementation with individual children and in families and systems.

Participants in this training will leave with an understanding of the underpinnings of the CPS model, its refinements over the past 8-10 years, and a range of practical assessment and intervention tools that can be used in your setting.

Completing the Introductory and Advanced CPS Training is a prerequisite to applying for the CPS certification training. Completion of the certification training is required for those who wish to provide the CPS model in their school, treatment, or clinical setting.

What did attendees say following Dr Greene’s 2023 CPS Perth training event?

  • This was such a fantastic PD. I loved it all. Dr. Greene certainly lived up to my expectations and more. I even got a moment to speak with him. A special thanks to The Kidd Clinic as this would not have been possible without them. It was, hands down, the most well organised PD I have been to. I highly recommend this training if it should be available again. Tivv Oberon, Teacher
  • As an Occupational Therapist who has been utilising and witnessing the benefits of Collaborative Proactive Solutions for several years, it was an absolutely fantastic experience to observe both fellow professionals and parents undergo the paradigm shift that comes with the understanding that 'kids do well if they can'. The workshop also provided the invaluable support to confidently start implementing the program, not only with children with outward concerning behaviours, but also with a wider range of clients including those with anxiety presentations such as selective/situational mutism. For all Occupational Therapists working with children, I wholeheartedly recommend exploring this program as a means of supporting both children and their networks. Isabelle Nash, Occupational Therapist
  • Best PD I’ve invested in for a long time. Thank you! Leanne Watson, Counselling Psychologist
  • Thank you for hosting such a fantastic, accessible and inspiring event. We’ve all come away from it so energised and committed to seeing Dr Greene’s CPS model used in families and schools across the country! Symone Wheatley-Hey, Parent
  • Thank you for bringing this training to Perth and modelling an accessible, safe and inclusive learning environment for everyone who attended. I wish we could see more of the Collaborative and Proactive Solutions model in our world, for kids and adults alike. Catherine Stokes, Parent and Professional
