Description

What does a strong, culturally safe response to family, domestic and sexual violence look like in our communities?

This two day training creates space for honest conversations, shared learning and practical ideas about responding to family, domestic and sexual violence (FDSV) in Aboriginal communities.

We’ll explore FDSV through an Aboriginal lens looking at the impacts of colonisation and intergenerational trauma, while also recognising the strength of culture, family, community and connection.

Together, we’ll unpack what violence and coercive control can look like, how it impacts women and children, and how we can better support safety and accountability. We’ll also look at what community organisations can do to build confidence, strengthen local responses and work together.

This is an interactive and practical two days, designed to bring people together, share knowledge and leave with ideas that can be put into practice.

We’ll explore:

  • FDSV through an Aboriginal lens

  • Culture, connection, family, and community strengths

  • Colonisation, intergenerational trauma, and the ongoing impacts on families

  • Coercive control and patterns of violence

  • The impacts of violence on women and children

  • Supporting victim-survivors and keeping children in view

  • Understanding perpetrator accountability

  • Having safe and meaningful conversations about violence

  • Building stronger local responses and referral pathways

  • What we can do differently in our own communities and organisations

Come along, share your experience, challenge your thinking and be part of building stronger, safer communities.
