Event description

Compost Is Simply Amazing Stuff!

Outram compost workshop.

The workshop will run from 1-5pm, with refreshments provided.

Join Michelle Ritchie from Organics Unearthed for an inspiring hands-on workshop.

Build soil resilience and protect your precious garden resource from weather extremes.

Master the art and science of 'hot' and 'cold' composting methods to turn your organic wastes – even garden pests and weeds - into life-giving compost.

Learn how easy a worm farm or Bokashi CompostZing System is for turning any food wastes into nutrient and microbe-rich compost. These are great space-saving methods that even children can use.

Please Note:

Bring gloves, (secateurs and a garden fork if you have them), and a notebook can be handy too. Camera's welcome.  Also, bring along all those questions and suggestions you may have about the art of composting!

Wear sturdy, closed in footwear, and be prepared for any weather - we will go ahead whatever the forecast – as we know in Dunedin the forecasts are not always accurate!

If the weather isn’t great, take heart that we can adapt the day to work mostly indoors in the warm, and find the ‘gap’ in the weather to build our wonderful compost heap in the garden!

Also, a request – if you have any food scraps to spare please bring them for the heap, but NO MEAT, ONION, BREAD thanks!

Directions:  Please park on either side of the main street of Outram (Holyhead Street) - the easiest and best option. Alternatively, park round the corner in Formby Street (just take care crossing by the corner if you do).

Come into the house – we’ll begin with theory indoors.
