    What We'll Do

    6.30 pm - Learn - Keeping Quail

    Facilitated by Adam Gould

Adam will share his practical experiences and tips on how to keep quail.

What's not to love about quail?  Small and perfectly formed, they are prolific egg layers and easy to keep.

    Did you know?

    • Almost everyone can keep quail, even in a very small backyard.
    • They're amazingly easy to look after, and excellent backyard companions.
    • Quail provide fresh, golden-yoked eggs with impressive feed-to-protein conversion, and meat is also an option.
    • Backyard quail are a useful alternative in urban areas where space and noise constraints may rule out backyard chickens.
    • They also provide pest control, fertiliser and compost making services.

    We’ll learn about:

    • the life of a quail
    • raising quail
    • housing (space, safety, deep litter, no need for perches, why free-ranging is not suitable)
    • basic needs (including feed, clean water, dustbath, grit)
    • quail for eggs and meat
    • just how remarkable the quail is.

Adam is a hobby farmer and engineer at local government. His passions involve many peculiar interests that include breeding quail and poultry. He has been breeding quails for about 5-6 years and has focused on a dual-purpose variety which produces loads of eggs and a good yield of meat. The emphasis has been about producing a good quality living environment and generally spoiling them with lots of insects and leafy greens.
