Artisan, David Harriman, has been self-employed in his own business, Colonial Woodcrafts, for 30 years. In this business he uses many traditional skills on a daily basis.

David has had an interest in designing and creating unique pieces using the mediums of wood and steel since childhood. His working life began with an apprenticeship in joinery.

Having mastered the skills of joinery, he began to develop his own unique style. blending modern technology with some old-world skills including carving, wheelwrighting and coopering.

These same traditional skills were a large part of the beginnings and success of his business. He has made literally hundreds of wooden tubs, buckets and vessels over the 30 years.

A large range of timbers are used in his creations including bush timbers, recycled timber and plantation timbers. He has been teaching the basic skills of coopering at various events and places since 2017.

He has also won a number of awards at various shows, exhibitions and expos for his creative woodwork, with some featuring Australian flora and fauna.

David has been a regular exhibitor at the Maleny Wood Expo.
