Riverkeeper River Walk: Werribee River Regional Park
Description
Join the Werribee Riverkeeper this November for a guided walk through the Werribee River Park and Werribee Mansion precinct, a beautiful stretch of riverine parkland and one of the best places in Wyndham to see the river at its most alive.
The theme of the morning is habitat. We will look at what makes good habitat for wildlife along the river, why revegetation matters and how planting and natural regeneration rebuild the layers of vegetation that animals need. We will also talk about old trees, the River Red Gums and mature hollows that take generations to form and cannot be replaced, which are among the most valuable habitat in the catchment.
Along the way we will ask the simple question: what wildlife actually lives here? From platypus and waterbirds to frogs, bats, insects and the small birds that depend on dense understorey, we will talk about what you might see on the day, what helps or hinders each of them, as always, we will talk about all things Wirribi Yaluk, the river's story, its challenges, and how the community's care is slowly bringing it back.
