About the New Venue - Bucketty's Brewing Co, Brookvale

There is so much to learn about Bucketty's and its humble beginnings.  It's a family owned business with much blood, sweat and tears making it what it is today.

I can't think of a better place for Story Room Aus to call home, after-all beer and stories are like peas in a pod, they just fit perfectly.

The Food

Check out the menu. You certainly won't starve to death while you listen to some great stories. We are however trying to learn how many people might buy meals, as Nick the owner will open the food truck especially for us.

Meet the Storytellers

Sidney Seymour

A lover of life and adventure, Sydney has moved herself, and her kids, around the world since she was 20. So when her youngest finished school Sydney packed up again, but this time set sail around the world leaving her kids and her land-lubbing life behind. Despite chronic motion sickness and not knowing how to sail, she made it round the world. Some might call it courageous - but she is not sure which side of the fine line between courage and stubbornness with a dash of stupidity she sits on. Sidney has agreed to fly across the ditch (from NZ) to share her story.

Simon Phin

Simon is a surf life saver, keen surfer, and early morning swimmer at Manly with the Drinks Express which is how most people know him. He inhales coffee more, and much earlier, than he should and loves a chat and a nickname. However, his professional life has been kept somewhat under wraps.

You see, Simon works on the rigs. Simon stepped onto his first offshore deepwater drilling rig knowing nothing other than no-one could be more nervous than him. With 20 years behind him and 50 rigs later covering 25+ countries, he’s experienced a little more than most and has found himself in situations he’d rather not be in.

Simon has an interest in risk and why people unnecessarily accept it . He is the holder of an Innovation Patent for the methodology and measurement of risk appetite (HARTS®) that is used globally in high-risk environments. Simon was a Torchbearer for the Sydney 2000 Olympics in recognition of services to the community.

At age 70, Kathy knows she has unfinished sailing business and is planning to this year once again take part in the Sydney-Hobart on her own boat, Currawong, in the two- handed division with her good friend Bridget. This is an exciting adventure and challenge for a teacher and a nurse, both retired. Between them they have 95 years of sailing experience.
