First Iranian Music Festival 2023 - CozyMinimal
Event description
CozyMinimal: Embarking from its 1960s roots, minimal music initially emerged as an experimental movement in New York, associated with composers such as La Monte Young, Terry Riley, and Steve Reich.
Core to this genre includes steady pulsation, a reiteration of melodic phrases, and the art of gradual evolution. Remarkably, a kindred aesthetic of repetitive patterns echoes in various art forms of Iranian heritage, notably in Khayyam Khani—a ritual that gracefully echoes Khayyam’s verses through repeated rhythms.
During the festival, we will showcase a captivating live calligraphy performance by Reza Taghipour, where he inscribes the influence he derives from the live performance unfolding around him. This harmonious collaboration with the music of CozyMinimal aims to craft a unique musical language, drawing inspiration from the minimalism movement while weaving in the rich tapestry of Iran’s traditional melodies.
To fully grasp this experience, we invite you to listen patiently, engaging in a meditative mode that allows the fusion of influences to resonate deeply.
Performers:
Reza Taghipour: Calligrapher
Ehsan Kachooei: Setar
Ali Yarmohammadi: Tar
Shervin Mirzeinali: Piano & Electronics
Arman Gouniaei: Tombak
