COMPOST AND CRITTERS WORKSHOP at KELMARNA FESTIVAL

with Rosannah and Daisuke

Sunday 16 March - 3.00pm to 4.00pm (1hrs)

Join us at the Farm for this years Kelmarna Festival. Come celebrate the abundance of summer and inspire positive change for our planet. Hosted by Kelmarna, and in collaboration with a diverse array of partners, including local restaurants, food businesses, organic suppliers, community organisations, talented musicians, and more, this event promises an enriching celebration of our local harvest.

This workshop is occurring during the Kelmarna Festival on 16th March, 2025. All workshops on the day are $20, book in advance.

What to expect:

Do you compost at home? What about worms? And what’s this thing called Bokashi? In this workshop with Kelmarna's community compost coordinator Rosannah, learn the basics of composting at home and more. The workshop will cover types and techniques of composting, Nitrogen to Carbon ratios, and the microbes that make your compost work. Then meet the Black Soldier Fly! Discover how this remarkable beneficial insect plays a role in turning food scraps into high-value nutrients for soil and animals—offering a fast, entertaining way to process organic waste while enriching local food systems. Participants will be able to get hands-on with live BSF larvae, understand how they complement traditional composting methods, and even get the chance to feed chickens with fresh larvae as part of a complete circular system.

Where to find the workshop:

There will be plenty of wayfinding at the Festival on the day. Just make your way to the Kelmarna info stall 5 minutes before the start of the workshop, and your tutor Rosannah will be there to meet you.

We look forward to seeing you at the Festival!
