Building on PSC’s Introductory Webinar, PD1: Engaging with climate change and eco-distress, participants will learn about PSC’s approach to eco-distress by exploring their own response to the climate reality and experience opportunities for self-care. This will support the development of presence to be with the uncertainty and discomfort of the climate crisis in those they work with. The implications of this experiential learning for professional practice will also be explored.

Prerequisite: 

PSC’s Introductory Webinar (PD1, see above) does not have to be completed prior to this workshop, but both of the preliminary workshops should be completed before attending the final workshop in the series, Being present with climate distress: Applications to professional practice

Facilitators


Carol Ride 

Carol has worked as a psychologist in the field of couple therapy, as a therapist, supervisor and trainer. Her shift to work in the field of climate change was motivated by the urgent need to contribute to engaging and supporting people psychologically in responding to the unfolding climate crisis. Carol is the Founder of Psychology for a Safe Climate and was, until 2023, our Executive Director. She regularly facilitate workshops for PSC and speaks publicly on climate psychology.

Libby Skeels

Libby is a counselling psychologist who runs her private practice online with zoom, skype and facetime. She uses a psychodynamic theory base to work with individuals and couples. Libby worked for Relationships Australia for 17 years and has been in private practice for a further 17 years. Libby has been a climate activist for 14 years. She was an inaugural member of Warrandyte Climate Action Now group and also of PSC. She is passionate about working with PSC colleagues to run workshops and to develop new programs for the community. She finds being active in PSC helps her with her own feelings of grief and anger about climate change.

By registering for an event, workshop, forum or activity hosted by Psychology for a Safe Climate (PSC event), I understand and agree that:



1. A PSC event may include experiential components in which participants work in a group format to discuss their thoughts and feelings, facilitated by the workshop leader(s). Although the leader(s) is/are accredited mental health professional(s), and trained facilitator(s) with PSC, these group experiences are not therapy groups, and the facilitator(s) will not engage in rendering any psychotherapeutic or healthcare advice, or advice of any kind for any individual or for their particular situation.

2. PSC does not provide medical, mental health or any other type of healthcare service. No diagnosis or treatment of, or advice regarding, any medical or mental health condition or illness of any participant can or will be offered by PSC.

3. Participation in a PSC event cannot substitute for, and is not an alternative to, medical or other healthcare diagnosis and treatment when a medical or mental health condition or illness is present.

4. It is my personal responsibility to seek diagnosis, treatment and advice regarding medical or mental health conditions from physicians, psychotherapists and other accredited healthcare Professionals.
