SMART Squad: Coding with Micro:bits holiday workshop

Get ready for hands-on science these school holidays! This half-day workshop, run by the University of Newcastle's SMART Program, will introduce kids to coding using micro:bits - tiny, pocket-sized computer circuits.

Throughout the afternoon, students will engage in hands-on coding and digital making activities:

🔌Learn the basics of electrical circuits and program the micro:bit's LED display
💻Use formal programming language to send commands and explore coding logic such as "if" statements
⌚Create a "watch band" to hold the micro:bit and play a digital game

There will be plenty of time for open-ended exploration, so students can work at their own pace with support from the SMART Program’s expert educators.

Ages: 8-12 years (limited to students enrolled in primary school years 3, 4, 5 & 6)

When: Wednesday 28th January 1`:30pm-4pm

Cost: $49 per student (incl. GST)

Enrolments:

• Limited to 20 students, based on order of registration via Humanitix. A waitlist will be created when all tickets are sold.

• Restricted to primary school or registered homeschool students currently enrolled in Years 3, 4, 5, or 6.

• Families enrolling 2 or more students are invited to use the discount code FAMILY#5 at checkout to receive a $5 discount

Double-dip! If you enrol your child/ren in both workshops (Forensic Science in the morning and Coding with micro:bits in the afternoon), we will provide supervision during the lunch break from 12:30-1:30pm. More details will be provided following registration.
