About the class:
When you commit to being a change-maker, it starts small and grows as you find your medium and your message. There is so much to fight for these days that it can be hard to know where to start! In this workshop, we’ll learn about the history of craftivism and how it has helped connect people globally to create real awareness and movement. With a little planning, you can focus on issues and outcomes that are close to your heart.
Your fellow crafter Shaerie will demonstrate a variety of techniques to get the ball rolling, divided up into ‘messy’ (block printing, fabric stamping & stencil, glue resist) and ‘clean’ (embroidery, sewing & quilting). You can register for either class or both – projects can be made from any and all of these mediums. Plenty of examples will be on hand!
For the ‘messy’ class, Shaerie will provide fabric scraps and paper for DIY patches, banners and posters, along with fabric paints and a wide variety of stamps & stencils. Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting ink on and feel free to bring items from home (like old tees) to experiment on.
In the ‘clean’ class, we’ll have fabric, embroidery floss & design templates. You can work on a new project or choose to embellish something from the previous class! Shaerie will show basic stitches & techniques and talk a little about the rich history of fiber arts as a method of social change.
All levels of experience are welcome!
