Event description
Creating Compassionate Communities Conference - Ending the Blame Game Shame 2024
**In-person tickets close 16 October - get in quick to secure your place**
On Wednesday 30th October, Phoenix Support and Advocacy Service is celebrating our 40th Anniversary and are proud to be hosting our second Creating Compassionate Communities Conference: Ending the Blame Game Shame.
Our Conference will bring together experts, survivors, advocates, and community leaders to discuss strategies for ending victim blaming. Victim blaming is a common phenomenon that occurs when responsibility for a crime, trauma, or hardship is shifted from the perpetrator to the victim. Statements such as "she was asking for it" or "boys will be boys" perpetuate this harmful mindset.
There is an urgent need for education and advocacy to combat these damaging beliefs. There is an urgent need for change. Whether intentional or unintentional, victim blaming can cause serious harm to survivors, leaving them feeling responsible for their abuser's actions, exacerbating feelings of shame and guilt.
Our Creating Compassionate Communities Conference will include latest sector research and solution focussed conversations about challenging and confronting issues. We hope to begin to turn the tide on victim blaming, so that victims feel supported, not shamed. Its time we come together as a community and End the Blame Game Shame.
