Creative Writing Retreat (Grades 3rd-5th)

Monday, Oct. 7-Friday, Oct. 11
Class meets daily: 9 AM - 12 PM
$125
In this weeklong writing retreat, kids will create their own author bios, dissect language through music and lyrics, take nature walks and journal, learn the elements of a good story, work on their own stories and ultimately share their polished work with the group. We'll wrap up the week with a literary themed escape room where students use the knowledge they've learned all week to solve a mystery before the clock runs out.

About the teacher: Amy McLean
Amy holds her BFA and MFA in Creative Writing. She has taught middle school Language Arts and high school English. She worked for years in outreach for the public library system sharing the power of books and the joy of reading. Amy lived abroad in Ireland, England, and Honduras before moving back to North Carolina. She believes that everyone has a story to tell. The last page of EB White’s Charlotte’s Web is framed on her wall. It reads: “It is not often that someone comes along who is a true friend and a good writer. Charlotte was both.”
