Crochet Zombie Heads with Amanda Blanchard

About the class:

What better way to celebrate spooky season? In this class, you will be crocheting a form of an amigurumi head, then delving deeper into sculpture and engineering to create pop-out eyes for added spookiness, using the instructor's own developed design. To best enjoy this session, you will need to know basic crochet and be brave enough to cut into it. See material list below.

Materials to bring to class:

- one skein of white, light green, light gray, or light brown Red Heart or Caron worsted yarn (basic acrylic, not Caron Simply Soft or anything with a soft drape)

- one skein each of black and red yarn, same kind as previous

- one skein of yarn of student’s choice for hair. This pretty much can be anything as long as it can be sewn in

- small bag of loose Polyfil, not felted sheeting

- size G hook

- yarn needle

About the facilitator:

Amanda Blanchard

I’ve been crocheting at least since 2002. I’ve been creating my own designs since 2008, in the form of small zombie dolls, unique head and neckwear, life-size dolls, sculptures, and lanterns. I graduated top of my class with an AFA from Durham Tech in 2018. I have experience with being a florist and graphic designer. I’m trained as a grassroots infant through school-age instructor, preschool dance instructor, homeschooled my own children, and am currently a part-time nanny. I’ve been teaching crochet at the Durham Arts Council since January 2024. I’ve been a model since 2018, I’ve taught children’s art programs in Henderson and the Durham Arts Council. I’ve been a dancer and in theater since I was a child; the current play I am a part of is “King Lear was Never Here” in Carrboro.
