FUSE Films – Bride and Prejudice (primarily English language)
Event description
Bride & Prejudice is a Bollywood-style musical adaptation of Jane Austen's literary classic, Pride and Prejudice, directed by Bend It Like Beckham director Gurinder Chadha. It is primarily an English language film with a small amount of Hindi and Punjabi dialogue.
Lalita Bakshi is an independent, intelligent young woman who lives in Amritsar with her family: good-humoured father Mr Bakshi; match-making mother Mrs Bakshi; beautiful and kind older sister Jaya; socially inept younger sister Maya; and headstrong youngest sister Lakhi. With the family facing financial pressures, Mrs Bakshi is desperate to match her daughters with eligible men and secure their futures.
When the easy-going and wealthy British-Indian barrister Balraj, and the even wealthier and not-so-easy-going American hotelier Will Darcy enter the scene, romantic entanglements, miscommunications and clashing ideas ensue. Through family dramas, romance and heartbreak across three continents, Lalita is determined to stay true to herself and find real love.
