The countdown is on for the first-ever Derby in the 'Dell, and it's shaping up to be one of the most exciting community events of the year. On Friday, November 6, creativity, teamwork, and hometown pride will take center stage as locally built derby carts race for glory in an evening packed with excitement, friendly competition, and unforgettable memories. Whether you're building a cart, cheering from the sidelines, or voting for your favorite team theme, this is an event the whole family will enjoy.
But Derby in the 'Dell is about much more than crossing the finish line first. It's about neighbors coming together, businesses supporting their community, volunteers making a difference, and families creating memories that last long after the race is over. Every cart tells a story of imagination and teamwork, every cheer from the crowd fuels the excitement, and every ticket purchased helps make a positive impact right here in Iredell County.
Hosted by Iredell Civic Community United (ICCU), this event represents what can happen when service organizations, churches, businesses, volunteers, and community leaders unite around a common purpose. Together, ICCU is committed to strengthening our communities, supporting local nonprofits, and creating opportunities that improve lives. Every dollar raised through Derby in the 'Dell will be invested back into a local nonprofit project selected by the ICCU Committee, ensuring that the excitement of race day creates lasting benefits for our community.
When the gates open at 4:00 p.m., you'll experience much more than a race. You'll see incredible handcrafted carts, imaginative team themes, community spirit on full display, and plenty of opportunities to laugh, celebrate, and connect with friends and neighbors. Spectators will even have the chance to vote for their favorite cart, making everyone part of the action.
This isn't just the start of a new event—it's the beginning of a new Iredell County tradition. After Sponsors & Derby Race Teams have submitted their payment, an email will be sent to the Derby Team Captain with Derby Cart specifications and requirements as well as a full team sign up form and waivers. All documents will need to be signed and returned prior to the Race on November 6th in order to participate. United Way of Iredell County serves as ICCU’s fiscal agent.
