Wrong answers welcome: Design diagnostic quizzes and interactives with AI

Every quiz question is a chance to find out how your students are thinking, not just whether they got the right answer. In this workshop, you'll use generative AI as a design partner to build quizzes where every option does diagnostic work, and where feedback turns mistakes into learning moments. You'll also explore when and how to move beyond quizzes into interactive activities that ask students to make decisions, apply concepts, and practise skills in context.

The focus throughout is on design thinking: what is your activity actually asking students to think about? You'll leave with at least one working activity you've designed, built, and tested, and a clearer sense of when a well-crafted quiz is all you need.

This workshop is open to educators and teaching and learning staff from across the higher education sector.

Learning objectives

In this workshop, you will be supported to:

• clarify the pedagogical purpose behind your quizzes and interactives

• use generative AI as a design partner to develop stronger questions, misconception-targeted distractors, and explanatory feedback

• build AI-generated quiz and interactive content efficiently using institutional tools

• explore approaches to building richer learning activities with EdTech tools such as H5P, Mentimeter, and AI vibe-coding.
