Event description

Join us for this interactive 1.5-hour workshop designed specifically for small social enterprises looking to leverage technology more effectively, delivered by Zentient.

Presented by Zentient, a WASEC-endorsed social enterprise that specialises in building digital cultures for purpose-driven organisations. Founded in 2021 by James Audcent and Steven Hodgskin, Zentient has grown to become one of Perth's most innovative tech consultancies dedicated to the not-for-profit and social enterprise sectors. Our team combines deep technical expertise with a genuine understanding of the unique challenges facing mission-driven organisations.

This hybrid event features in-person facilitation by Zentient with online facilitation supported by the WASEC team, making it accessible whether you attend in person or join remotely.

What the Workshop will look like:

Part 1:

1pm

Digital Foundations We’ll explore what a comprehensive IT infrastructure looks like for small organisations and cover all of the essential technology areas including collaboration tools and CRM systems. This is designed for all start-ups who are new to IT, and would like to skill up on the 101s. No matter where you are in your journey, we've got you covered.

Through guided exercises, you'll map your current technology usage, identify gaps, and evaluate your team’s existing tech infrastructure against best practices. We'll highlight common pitfalls that cause headaches for social enterprises and share cybersecurity and privacy essentials to protect your organisation.

By the end of Part 1, you'll develop a practical action plan for your technology needs and learn about the unique opportunities available to social enterprises and NFPs, including discounted tools and technical assistance programs.

1.45pm Break time! Snacks and chats

Part 2:

2pm

Advanced Topic (You Choose!) When you register, you'll get to vote on which advanced topic you'd like us to cover in the second half.

Part 2 is to help social enterprises prepare for their next horizon. As your business grows, what types of systems or challenges will you need to prepare for, and what opportunities are are available to you to use tech to enhance your business.

Topic options include:

  • Digital Culture - building an environment where technology enhances your team's capabilities rather than creating frustration; aligning tools, processes and people;
  • Impact Measurement - using digital tools to track, visualise and communicate your social impact effectively to stakeholders and funders;
  • Cybersecurity - practical security measures for small teams without IT expertise; protecting your mission from common digital threats;
  • Automation - eliminating repetitive tasks using accessible tools like Zapier and Microsoft Power Automate; doing more with limited staff resources; and
  • AI - practical applications of AI tools like ChatGPT for content creation, data analysis, and operational efficiency in resource-constrained organisations.

3pm - 4pm

Networking, drinks and nibbles.

This isn't just a presentation - it's a working session! You'll leave with:

  •  A personalised digital priorities checklist
  • Actionable next steps specific to your organisation
  • Resource recommendations tailored to your budget
  • Connection to a community of like-minded social enterprises

Whether you're struggling with manual processes, wondering which tech investments make sense for your small team, or looking to streamline operations, this workshop will provide practical, affordable solutions you can implement immediately.
